Tips to grow Onions:

  1. Arrange good quality onion seeds.
  2. Soil should be well-drained, slightly acidic and fertile.
  3. If planting from seed, bear in mind that onion seeds are short-lived, so start with fresh seeds each year.
  4. Plant them between 2 and 6 inches apart, and don’t bury them more than 1 inch under the soil.
  5. When planting transplants into the pot, space plants 6 inches apart. Rows should be 5 inches apart.
  6. Add straw mulch between rows of onions.
  7. Pull any onions that send up flower stalks. This means that the onions have stopped growing.
