Tips to Grow Butterfly Bush

  1. Arrange good quality butterfly bush nursery plants.
  2. The soil should be moist, fertile, loose and well draining.
  3. Select a pot of at least 24 inch in diameter. Make a hole twice the size of root ball of nursery plant. Remove the plant from nursery bag and place gently in the hole.
  4. When placing the plant in the hole, the top of the rootball should be level with the soil surface
  5. Avoid fertilizing butterfly bush, too much fertility promotes leaf growth over flower production.
  6. Each spring, apply a thin layer of compost and mulch to retain moisture and control weeds.
  7. Remove spent flower spikes to encourage new shoots and flower buds. it is important to deadhead the flowers just as they start to wither so that this invasive plant doesn’t spread volunteer seeds.
