  1. Bird of paradise seeds take up to a year to germinate, and young plants may not flower for seven years. It’s much easier to buy a bird of paradise plant or divisions of clumps rather than to start the plant from seed.
  2. The soil should be evenly moist, but not wet or soggy, rich and well draining.
  3. Plant the divisions of clumps of bird of paradise in a large pot. Plant only one plant in each container. It’s important to keep it in the brightest room in your house. 
  4. Fertilize the bird of paradise in every two weeks during the growing season for better growth.
  5. The bird of paradise doesn’t require much pruning. You need only cut off old flower stalks at the base of the plant to keep your bird of paradise healthy. Do this in the spring time for best results.
