Tips to Grow Rose:

  1. Arrange good quality bare-roots of roses.
  2. Soak bare-root roses in a bucket of water for 8-12 hours before planting.
  3. Soil should not be waterlogged.
  4. Place the bare root or potted rose on top of the mound. Use a shovel to fill the hole back up with soil. The rose’s bud union should be located about 2 inches below the surface of the ground.
  5. If you grow roses with graft, plant roses just beyond the graft point.
  6. Place mulch over the area where you planted the rose. If you planted a potted bush, place the mulch around the stem. This will keep the temperature consistent for better growth.
  7. Prune the plants severely after planting, trimming each branch back about 3 inches from the main stem.
  8. Roses harvest best just after they bloom. Wait until the flowers have fully unfolded to harvest your roses.

Other Usage of Roses:

The tart reddish-orange hips of rugosa roses are used for jams, jellies, syrups, pies, teas, and wine. Rose petals are edible and can be tossed into salads for color, candied to decorate cakes, or distilled to make rose water.
